Adapter for the New Yorker Metro

RSFP-X99-NY

The adapter was specifically developed for the New York City Metro, overcoming several challenges. After several discussions with the project management and surveying teams, the following requirements were identified:

  1. The reference points needed to be compatible with all common measuring instruments.
  2. The reference points should remain usable for the longest possible period – ideally for over 100 years.
  3. The reference point should be accessible and usable from all directions.
  4. It was not only necessary to measure the tilt axis height but also to precisely determine the XYZ coordinates of the reference point itself.
  5. In the tunnel area, a special solution was required due to the following restrictions:
    a) Welding was not permitted,
    b) Drilling into the structure was prohibited,
    c) Adhesives were unsuitable for long-term stability,
    d) The tunnel structure could not be damaged in any way.

With our products and special solutions, we were ultimately able to meet all the requirements. 

 

Here are the solutions in detail:

  1. Our "One Point Fits All" system perfectly meets this requirement!
  2. A part of this system offers the possibility to restore the reference point to its original condition even in the event of destruction – unique worldwide!
  3. Standard for all products in the system with a tilt axis height of 100 mm.
  4. The RSMP392M article was developed on short notice to meet specific requirements and has since become a standard product.
  5. The RSFP-X99-NY adapter was developed for the tunnel area and has proven to be highly effective.

Magnets in the base plate hold the reflective target or mini prism precisely on the desired spot.
